What types of flowers would be the best?

We are getting married in Jamaica, just the two of us, and then coming back home to have a reception...what type of flowers would you suggest? Our reception is sort of leaning towards the beach/tropical theme, bright colors and is very informal, I was sort of thinking of topical flowers, but I don't really know what is considered "tropical" and would fit our theme.

What types of flowers would be the best?
I would go with gerber daisies!! They are bright colored and would look good with any type of theme!!
Reply:I would go more with birds of paradise (its a flower) and some palm fronds. Find out what is native to Jamaica and if it isn;t too expenseive, have those at your reception.
Reply:Look through bridal magazines and websites and find pictures of specific flowers you like. Take ideas to your florist and see what all would look good together. I love the tropical idea. I think any flowers can look tropical if you use tons of bright colors! I used hot pink gerber daisies and they are so fun. Maybe you would want the hawaiin flower hibiscus look. Just incorporate all your colors and splash your wedding with tons of bright flowers! :o) good luck!
Reply:Lillies came to mind as soon as i read your question. They come in tons of beautiful colors. I could see you using any pink color or even bright orange! I am using casablanca lillies for my wedding...my bouquet is going to have white ones mixed with burnt orange roses and my maids are carrying burnt orange casablanca lillies with beige mums. I LOVE lillies, they are so elegant and beautiful, and you could get away with them in your "tropical" theme because they come in many bright colors! Just talk to a local florist and they can give you tons of ideas! Good luck and congratulations!
Reply:Orchids and Bird of Paradise are pretty exotic. Shavebrush flowers are too. They look awesome and come in a great selection of colors. Palm trees, the mini ones, would be great too! Flower garlands of brightly colored blossoms would evoke a tropical feel as well.
Reply:Hibiscus flowers, stargazer lilies, orchids- those are the most exotic flowers I know.
Reply:Hey! Tropical is a great idea! Though Tropical flowers ARE more expensive than other types of flowers usually by a couple dollars a stem to a bunch. You can order Elephant Ear leaves (or find that in a friend's yard). Elephant ears are NOT palm fronds. They are more elegant than palm leaves. Birds of paradise (has orange red and blue/purple in it), Ginger, Stargazer lilies( usually has 2-3 tone colors) or love lilies (usually has one color) and last but not least Orange roses carry the tropical colors.

Also think about getting a few hibiscus topiary plants (with the flowers blooming) from like home depot or wal-mart to place here and there. And plant them in your yard afterwards as a memory to the great times!

Have fun! and by the way....gerber daisies wouldn't fit in the "tropical" theme real nice...it's more of a spring la-di-dah flower. but of course if it's what you want and you know it'll look good then go for it!
