I'm getting married at a Victorian mansion in August but I wanted to add a tropical flair to it since my fiance and I live in Miami and the wedding (and my family) will be in Indiana. The flowers I am wanting are very expensive so I'm trying to cut down on the cost by eliminating flowers in the centerpieces. Anyone have any ideas of how to make a centerpiece without flowers incorporating the tropical and victorian themes? Thanks!!! (10 for the best answer)
Wedding Centerpiece Ideas for a tropical-victorian themed wedding?
Since you're getting married in a Victorian mansion, you might consider taking a cue from Victorian exploration of the tropics. Have decorative maps, compasses, or other objects connected to exploration. Use swathes of netting (mosquito?) as tablecloths, table runners, or bows on other items. Add in a few big seashells and a coconut shell or so, and Bob's your uncle!
Have fun with bringing the two concepts of Victorian and tropical together.
Reply:I would use huge tropical leaves, and Victorian love letters and cut outs. All on large lace/crocheted doilies
Reply:I think truly tropical decor might look out of place in a Victorian mansion.
What if you incorporated your Maiminess with regional dishes from Florida like lots of seafood and salads.
You can also pick bright Miami colors and still fit with the location and burn ocean scented candles and things.
Add a few seashell touches here and there but I wouldn't make it really obvious considering where you are having it.
Reply:Use those really tall 3 armed candle holders ( I don't know what they are called) and drape topical flowers around them. I saw it in a brides mag.
Reply:What about some giant conk shells with just a few big flowers.
Reply:Uh thats a little too much! Victorian AND Tropical??? I say go to a beach or a more causal venue and do a tropical theme. When I think Victorian I think of lace, tons of flowers, and being formal. When I think of tropical I think fun, laid back, casual, party time, tons of crazy colors. I say go with one them or the other.
