Is there a connection between the Vikings and Native Americans?

I am intrested in learning about possile connections between the Vikings and the Native Americans. As a desedant of Vikings I am looking for a connections to how the Vikings came to draw tropical flowers. Thanks!

Is there a connection between the Vikings and Native Americans?
the tribe of the mandans ,subsequently wiped out by measles, had their lodges constructed in such a way they resembled viking lodges the mandans were'discoverde ' in the midwest approx1750-1800 there was a chap who went among and was an artist if you went to native americans and followed that line through you will discover why it has become common belief why the mandans are reputedly descendants of the vikings
Reply:Vikings were the first to land in North America to meet the natives in vinland.some scollars argue this point.
Reply:Discovery Channel had a program about the fact that all mankind originated in a primitive area of Africa. This area still has a tribe that has their own language. their genes were found in Asia, Europe India, Alaska ant American Indians. We are all brothers and sisters
Reply:How did you find your link to the Vikings? My father, deceased, swore that we are descended from Leif Erickson, and said the genealogy was researched in Salt Lake City, but I can find nothing. He said somethuing about the family being in the "kings Guard". Any idea what he is talking about?
Reply:While according to the Discovery Channel program, the Vikings did sail to Canada, I have not heard any proof they sailed further south.

The tropical flowers, could have come into Ireland by way of the The Gulf Stream. (I think that is the name.) Vikings definitely went to Ireland.

The Native Americans did not marry into the Viking population in the 800-1200s as far as we know. If in doubt try a DNA test.
Reply:The Vikings only visited the very far north region of North America, and only encountered what one would call Eskimos. They never stayed more than a few weeks on the few occasions they crossed the Atlantic from the Netherlands. The Vikings had a very strong distaste against the natives, and the feeling was mutual with the natives. so I doubt they ever hand a very strong connection. The tropical flowers designs probably were from experience with travelers from other parts of Europe, or may not be tropical at all.
Reply:The native american's were not even native to this land they actually came from asia a long time agon and there were also natives in south america. that is were all the natives in america came from. there is vast information on line. i will try to find the place that i read about that on and give you the link
Reply:I think there was a program on TV -History Channel maybe - about how there was a settlement of Vikings who settled around Nova Scotia, I think. Leif Erickson? They came from Greenland. That's the only connection I know to the Americas.

However, the Vikings were traders and conquerors who traded with far off places like Russia for example and even settled there. When the Vikings conquered what is Northern France they adopted French language and customs and were called Normans or "Northmen" and their country was Normandy. The Normans then went on to conquer Sicily and Southern Italy creating the "Kingdom of the Two Sicilies". I am not sure if they also traded with more tropical places perhaps in North Africa or Southern Spain.

Are the flowers in question only found in the Americas? If you could find out where the flowers grew, then you could trace the connection back.
